St Martin

Grand Canyon the Hidden Secrets - St Martin/Maarten is the littlest possessed island on the planet isolated between two countries. The southern Dutch part has a place with the Netherlands Antilles, yet current arrangements are to disassemble the Netherlands Antilles by October 2010, at which time Sint Maarten will tackle separate nation status. The northern French side, Saint Martin, is an abroad "collectivité" of France and along these lines considered some portion of Europe.

SXM has an area territory of 87km2; 53km2 for the French side with its primary town being Marigot and 34km2 for the Dutch, with Philipsburg as its 'capital'.

It is encompassed by the islands of Anguilla toward the north, St Barths toward the south-east and Saba, St Eustatius, St Kitts and Nevis toward the south. All are open by vessel or plane from SXM.You get fabulous perspectives of St Barths from Orient Beach and Saba from Simpson Bay Beach.

The most elevated point on the island is an insignificant 424 meters and is named Pic Paradis (heaven point). There's a brilliant trek up to it which is exceptionally prescribe. You need to advance toward Loterie Farm, park there and take the phenomenal trail up to the top. There have been muggings here in the past so it is constantly best not to take up any assets on your climb. When you return ensure you attempt the superb eatery at Loterie Farm or unwind with a beverage in the tree lounge, one of the best spots on island.

Sam Staley is a St Martin, St Maarten master. He has lived on the island and knows it back to front. His travel guide SXM Uncovered gives you access on the destination's real attractions, best kept mysteries and concealed diamonds.
